Friends of Rollo
What is Friends of Rollo?
"The Friends of Rollo - U.A. is a non-profit organization that sends kids fishing. Though we concentrate on disadvantaged, at risk, disabled, and inner-city children, we take kids from all walks of life. To date, we have taken over 40,000 kids fishing."

Our goal is to introduce fishing to children who might not otherwise have such an opportunity. We'd like them to experience a day of beauty and nature on the water. To see Dolphins swim in the bow's wake, to watch Whales surface for air, to witness Sea Lions at play around the boat. These are a few of the pleasures a day at sea can provide. These experiences can truly broaden a child's horizons.
We send 25 to 45 kids, with 5 or 6 chaperones, on 1/2 to 3/4 day fishing trips. Rods, reels, hooks and sinkers, as well as instructions, are provided.
90% of people fishing today started before the age of 10. It is the goal of Friends of Rollo to introduce as many children as possible to the experience of fishing. It is an experience that could change their life.
Although we concentrate on sending disadvantaged children, we welcome any group of kids. Church groups, Scout troops, school classes, etc. are all encouraged to participate. We provide all the necessary fishing equipment along with expert instruction from the Captain and crew and a set lunch (typically hamburgers and hot dogs).
We are a 501(c)(3) corporation, which means that all donations are tax-deductible. We take donations at any level. You can sponsor an entire boat, half a boat, a single child or anything in-between. All the people involved with Friends of Rollo are volunteers. This means that all the money donated to Friends of Rollo goes directly towards sending kids fishing.
Wouldn't it be rewarding to know that your entire donation is going toward such a good cause?
As a Captain on the long-range Sportfishing Royal Polaris, James "Rollo" Heyn was famous for his fishing skills. Fishing was his life-long passion. As a youngster, Rollo worked in a tackle shop after school and on weekends. During his teen years he worked as a cook and deckhand on charter boats. Later, he spent 18 years as a crewmember aboard the Royal Polaris. Over the years, Rollo's reputation grew. Professional anglers and beginners alike were always impressed by his fishing skills and his wonderful ability to share them. His extensive knowledge and tremendous sense of enthusiasm earned him a special place in the hearts of everyone who know him.
In Rollo's memory, Friends of Rollo seeks to introduce children to the wonderful world of fishing.
